Beautiful example of Historic architecture at Shiv Mandir

An historic 11th Century Shiv Mandir built in 1060 AD by Shilahara king Chhittaraja is an beautiful example of architecture. This Shiv mandir is situated on bank of Waldhuni river near Ambernath city (Dist-Thane, State-Maharashtra). The name Ambernath is translated as King of Sky and this temple is also called as Puratana Shivalaya. Ambernath is popularly known by name of this SHIV MANDIR.

It has been beautifully constructed with proper planning, on entry we can take darshan of nandi and move ahead for darshan of Shiv, here while entering inside, we can see that its sanctuary (garbhagriha) is below ground, which is 20-25 steps down from the mandapa. Mandir’s exterior is carved with sculpture of various gods, also sculpture of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma and Sun God are portrayed together as a single deity, it resembles like they are trying to tell us some stories / event of our mythology and past. It is believed that the temple is intricately carved in stone in the Hemadpanthi-style and makes for a splendid sight.

In Mahashivratri thousand of devotee comes to this temple for getting blessing from Lord Shiva and also on every Monday devotees visits this temple. Guru Nanak visited the temple sometime around 1415. UNESCO has included Shiva Mandir of Ambernath in its Cultural Heritage list. Local administration here has started Ambernath Shiv Mandir Festival since past 3 years, this event promotes culture and Arts and is a new way to get connected to various people locally and globally. Every devotee of lord Shiva should visit this SHIV MANDIR of Ambernath.

How to reach Ambernath

2 kms away from Ambernath railway station and it can be easily reached through local trains from Mumbai.

Many state transport buses are available to reach Ambarnath from Kalyan, Thane, Badlapur and Karjat. Thane is major city to reach Shiv Mandir Ambarnath. From thane, Badlapur or Karjat tourists can reach Ambarnath by bus, auto or private vehicles.
